10 Fashion Faux Pas

Most of us feel like we are invincible to the fashion faux pas; however, times change and everyone has different taste. So here are a few tips to avoid while getting ready for the day.
1.      Make sure your clothes fit you. Too baggy and too tight are both fashion faux pas. Baggy clothes add pounds and look grungy. Too tight of clothing adds and shows bulges. Buy things that look good and fit you now!
2.      Don’t mix seasons. It doesn’t flow right.
3.      Make sure bra and panty lines do not show! This is distracting and unprofessional.
4.      Don’t wear wrinkled clothes. Use an iron to smooth out those stubborn wrinkles! Wearing clothing with wrinkles makes you look like you just jumped out of bed and ran out the door. It is unappealing and unprofessional!
5.      Make sure your dress or skirt isn’t too short. Don’t feel uncomfortable.
6.      Beware of white. It adds bulk! Just try to limit this color.
7.      Also beware of too many colors at once! Too many colors will make you look like 5 year old trying to dress yourself.
8.      Don’t wear more than one printed clothing. Pick a top or bottom with prints but not both.
9.      Don’t wear more than one shade of denim.
10.   Match your accessories and don’t over accessorize! Picking the right jewelry tops off your look. Make sure you are matched all the way through!

Jewelry Cleaning

How do you keep your jewelry sparkling without taking them to the jewelers? Here are a few tips I use to keep my jewelry clean!

Pearls are a very high maintainance jewelry. Hairspray, perfume, and comsetics dull them exceedingly fast! To help prevent this, completely finish getting ready before putting on your pearls. Perspiration also harms pearls so it is important to wipe them with a soft cloth after every use! Store your pearls in a breathable protective  pouch to prevent them from getting scratched from your other jewelry.

Gold is the most common jewelry especially for wedding rings. Since you wear your wedding ring everyday it probably gets dirty fast. This method is easy and cheap! Soak your gold in hot water mixed with a small amount (about 15%) of dish soap and ammonia for about 20 minutes. (If your gold has any stones make sure they can withstand ammonia and soaking! Diamonds can be cleaned this way.) Take the ring out of the mixture and clean with a soft bristled toothbrush. Pay special attention to crevicis! Rinse in hot water. Make sure to get all the cleaning solution off to avoid soap residue. Buffer the gold with a soft cloth to prevent water spots.

Most jewelry you can simply buffer with a soft cloth to make it shine and prevent from hurting precious stones. Always research your stone before soaking or using a harsh chemical on it!

How to Pick Your Accessories by Hair Color

Dark Brown and Black Hair- Your hair sets a natural black background that really sets off jewelry such as pearl, seashell, silver, and corn silk. To better match your clothing you can pick jewelry with icy or clear tones.

Red Hair- Pick yellow gold, bronze, copper, and oxidized gold and silver for your metal. Pick stones such as turquoise, topaz, diamonds, canary, opals, ivory toned pearls, jade carnelians, and garnets.

Blonde Hair- Pick old golds, yellow golds, and brass for your metal. Flattering stones include ivory, topaz, peridot, amethyst, pale emeralds, sapphires, pearls, and diamonds.
